Susan Martin Porter

Susan Martin Porter, 84, was called to Heaven on October 11, 2022, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and Cancer. Until her final days, she shared her light and smile amidst her struggles. By her side and caring for her every step of the way throughout this difficult journey was her husband and protector, Shelton.  Sue was incredibly blessed by his strength, loyalty and sacrificial love; a true inspiration to us all.

Sue worked as an analyst at the NN Shipyard for 19 years; was an active member of Hilton Baptist and Liberty Baptist church; where you’d find her teaching bible studies, leading single adults, singing in the choir and throughout the community with the “Heart Throbs”. Music reached her soul even in the end when words failed her. She would want to be remembered most for her love and service to her Lord and Savior; a proud and faithful servant who shared His love to lift up others.

Sue was preceded in death by her loving parents, James Homer Martin III and Evelyn Eades Martin of West Virginia; survived by her love of 40 years, Shelton Ralph Porter; devoted sister Jane Gray; brothers Jim Martin (Pat), Howard Martin; children, Robin Caruso (Frank); Barry Rogers, Mark Rogers; April Thompson, Scott Porter (Kellie); 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed on this earth but has now been set free and is rejoicing in Heaven.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home followed by a funeral service.  Sue will be laid to rest at Peninsula Memorial Park.
