Sue Tillman Strother

Sue Tillman Strother completed her life’s journey on October 11, 2021. She was a graduate of Wake Forest University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Her years of Christian Ministry were shared with her husband and partner, The Rev. Dr. Joe Strother. Together they served churches in Washington, D.C., Maryland, California, and Virginia.

Her husband was pastor of these churches and Sue served in many capacities of church life, including the teaching and leading of young people, adults, and in the role of counselor. She and her husband led prayer therapy and marriage enrichment groups in the states of California and Virginia. Sue also served on an Evangelism and Mission Team to Sussex, England.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, The Rev. Dr. Harold B. Tillman and Mrs. Retha Stewart Tillman, and her husband, The Rev. Dr. Joseph C. Strother. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Linda Altman (Brad Altman), Donna Highfill (Neil Karn), and John Mark Strother (Lisa Morris Strother); grandchildren, Kristen, Kyle, Jacob, Samantha, Chelsey and Zachary; and her sister, Dr. Betty Z. Liles.

Sue always said, “My greatest accomplishment in life was to raise three exceptional children who are strong in their Christian Faith – passing this faith and strength on to their children – there is no greater achievement or joy.”

A private family service was held at Peninsula Memorial Park.
