Steven Michael Kamsiuk

Steven Michael Kamsiuk, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at his residence. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death.

Steve was born in Detroit, MI, and moved to Virginia at the age of 19 with very little money.  He began working in a restaurant where he met his wife of 30 years, Lillian.  They started a family and through hard work and dedication, they became the owners and operators of Tommy’s Restaurant in Hampton.  Steve then ventured into other opportunities with his business partner, Sam Phillos, who he loved like a brother. Steve was a successful businessman, but most importantly, he was a devoted husband and father. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Steve loved his family, any of the Detroit sports teams, rock n roll music, good times with friends and family, and his country.  He was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his two sons, attending their sporting events and visiting family in Detroit. He also loved to hunt and ride his Harley with his best friends, Daryl Moody and Joe Scarcello. There wasn’t anything Steve couldn’t repair and took pride in his work.  Steve was a member of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Newport News and a member of the Big Belly Hunt Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Alice Kamsiuk. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Lillian; two sons, Michael and Theotokis (Theo); mother-in-law, Maria Poulimenos; sister-in-law Kathy McElroy and husband Derrick; nephew William Bertoline; niece Maria Bertoline; and cousin David Sobczak from Utica, MI;  as well as other beloved cousins and dear friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service, officiated by Rev. George Chioros, on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 5:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. The service will be live-streamed at www.peninsulafuneralhome.com/video.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church ( https://schgoc.square.site).

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
