On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, Sotos Tofalli, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully in his home of 60 years. Sotos was born in the village of Komi Kebir, Cyprus on October 7, 1928.  In 1952, he took his uncle’s invitation to come to America where he began his career in the restaurant business, starting at his uncle’s restaurant The Puritan and then retiring from The Bull’s Head in 1996. He was a well-respected worker and was always reliable.

In 1960, Sotos traveled back to Cyprus and married his wife Panayiota of 62 years on June 5, 1960. Together they built a happy life in America and raised their two children Chris and Maria. He loved spending time with his family (especially his grandsons) and did everything he could to help support them and he was proud to see the things they accomplished. Aside from enjoying spending time with his family, Sotos enjoyed volunteering at the Annual Newport News Greek Festival and was a member of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church for almost 70 years.

Sotos will always be remembered for his warm smile and the kindness and respect he showed everyone and for enjoying the simple pleasures in life. He was preceded in death by his father, Tofallis A. George, mother, Kakoullou Sotiri, brother, Antonis Tofalli, and sisters, Maroulla Tofalli and Christina Toumazou.  He is survived by his wife Panayiota Tofalli, his children, Chris Tofalli, and his wife Polymnia, daughter, Maria Touvannas and her husband George, three grandsons, Andrew Touvannas, Soterios Tofalli and Kyprianos Tofalli, two sisters, Panayiota Vraka and Angela Kritikos, plus, many nieces and nephews.

The Trisagion service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. with visitation afterward until 6:30 p.m. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. George Chioros at the church.  Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 60 Traverse Road, Newport News, VA 23606.
