Sarah Louisa Rhody, 67, died March 3, 2022 at Riverside Regional Medical Center with family by her side. Sarah was born in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Lieutenant Colonel Dean A. and Mallie P. Rhody. She resided most of her life in Newport News and Hampton, VA. Because of developmental challenges, Sarah resided in local Community Services Board group homes throughout her adult life. Despite her challenges, she had an infectious laugh, loved going to dances, participating in Special Olympics, spending time with family, reading, going out to eat and activities, and dressing up as Disney Princesses.

Sarah is survived by her sister, Mallie “Candy” Rhody; brother, Clarence “Chip” Rhody and his wife Kathryn “Kathy”; nephews, Matthew Rhody and Jason Rhody and their wives; and four great-nieces.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Peninsula Funeral Home, with a celebration of her life to follow at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Danny Owens. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

The family is indebted to Community Services Board for the years of dedication, support and love in their care of Sarah. Our special thanks to the doctors, nurses, staff and Hospice services at Riverside Hospital. They are the most caring and professional people we have had the privilege to meet.
