Robert Ray Reid

Robert Ray Reid, (Bobby), 67, Newport News, passed away on December 8, 2021. Born December 20, 1953, Bobby attended Denbigh High School class of ’73. He retired as a nuclear  pipefitter  from Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

Bobby was fun-loving and always laughing. Whether he was the butt of the joke or making the joke he always made everyone laugh and smile at his antics. He loved fast cars and watching history documentaries.

There rarely wasn’t a problem he couldn’t research to find the answer to. His favorite pastime was torturing his wife of 47 years with ghost shows. “Why do they think they can travel to Italy and speak English to a 400- year-old ghost?”

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents James Reid and Lula Reid, his brother Harvey Reid, sisters Vernel Shortz, Laura Shepa, Carol Ertley, and nephew Richard Reid.

Survived by his wife, Cynthia Reid; son, Jonathan Reid (Brooke) his daughter Catherine Reid; many nieces and nephews he loved dearly, beloved in-laws, and his special grand fur-babies.

There will be a visitation starting 12:30 pm with a service to follow 2:00 pm Friday, December 17, 2021. Peninsula Funeral Home 11144 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23601

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Heart Association.

Bobby was a beloved .son-in-law. I will never forget what a wonderful, loving husband he was to my Cindy, his high-school sweetheart. He was always there for her – in sickness and in health. He was her rock. HE also lived up to the name Father. I truly appreciate the loving and care he gave my grandchildren Jonathan and Katie. On a lighter note, he never let me pay for my meals when we went out to dinner. Also, I can’t count the number of gorgeous and delicious turkeys he prepared for all holidays. I can see
his smiling face as he, preceeded by the turkey, came into the kitchen at just the right time. Also, I will treasure our vacations to the OBX with Virginia relatives and Oak Island, North Carolina, with our North Carolina relatives. The little ones adored him and the love was reciprocated by him. Will forevermore remember the looks on their faces when he was surf fishing and his caught a baby shark to release. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Bobby. You were a very brave man!!

Farewell “Bunny”. Always the Eveready Bunny, going, going and going! He could fix ANYTHING. Always the Go To Guy. So funny. I enjoyed working with you in our gang and socializing afterwards. You taught this Fabricworker so much about pipe fitting.
Such a good man. Rest in Peace.
