Richard Mackubin Calvert

Richard Mackubin Calvert passed away at home in Newport News, Virginia, on Saturday, December 31, 2022.  

After proudly serving in the US Marine Corps, Richard was a professional sailor and worked as a sailmaker in St. Thomas, USVI, Barbados, BVI, Oyster Bay, NY and retired from Doyle Sails in Hampton, VA. He had a lifelong passion for the sea and sailing. In retirement, Rich enjoyed his many friendships, sports, reading and building intricate model ships.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Creagh Mackubin Calvert III. He is survived by his mother, Charlotte (“Rene”) Weimer Calvert, brother Creagh Douglas Calvert, sister, Margaret Christina Calvert Patterson, brother-in-law James Allan Patterson and nieces Charlotte Elaine, Eleanor South, Mary Calvert Patterson and Zoe Anne Calvert.

Donations in his memory can be made to Foundation Fighting Blindness (fightingblindness.org) for Retinitis Pigmentosa research or to our Military Veterans.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
