Raybon D. Robbins

Raybon D. Robbins, 91, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023.  He was a native of Newport News and had lived in Hampton for 62 years.

Raybon served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, worked for C&O Railroad for seven years, a job he genuinely loved, and ended his working career as a Welding General Foreman for Newport News Shipbuilding with over 34 years of service.  He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church for over 53 years.  Raybon also belonged to the Old Dominion Hunt Club for many years.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, whittling intricate chains and walking sticks.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Gladys Robbins, sister, Irleene Greene, and brother, Corbin Robbins.  He is survived by his spouse of 66 years, JoAnne Robbins; daughter, Wanda Bowdoin (David); two sons, Fred Robbins (Tracy) and Gary Robbins (Athena); seven grandchildren, Alex Robbins, Audrey Gregory (Aaron), Sylvia Robbins (Emily), Tyler Park (Rebekah), Nicole Park, Justin Park, and Bridget Park (Greg); three great-grandchildren Ezekiel, Samuel and Simon; sister, Mary Lou Calhoun; and brother Wayne Robbins (Kathy).

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 13, 2023, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  The interment will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church General Fund (https://www.bethanyunitedmethodist.org/).
