Paul R. Dale

Paul Randolph “Randy” Dale went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 12, 2022 after recently celebrating his 89th birthday. A native of Newport News and a longtime Hampton resident, Randy was a generous and sociable man who knew no stranger. He married his love Catherine Virginia (affectionately known as “Kitty Gin”) 65 years ago.

An avid sports player and admirer, Randy excelled in numerous leagues from his youth into adulthood and cherished the camaraderie built with his teammates turned friends. A football and baseball star at Newport News High School, he went on to play as a minor league catcher in the Philadelphia Phillies organization after graduation, and for other regional teams, such as: the Kecoughtan Elks, the Newport News Elks and Dodgers, the Hampton Royals and the nationally competitive Fox Hill based fast-pitched softball.

Randy and Kitty raised two sons while he was employed at the Telephone Company for more than 30 years. Randy officiated various sports throughout the local area- combining his enthusiasm for athletics with community. In his retirement, he enjoyed boating, golfing, collecting cars, woodworking in his shop, and exploring the Tidewater Region with his granddaughters.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mamie Dale; his siblings Linwood, Robert and Melva Lee; and his son Paul R. Dale Jr.

Left to cherish his memory are his patient and loving wife, Catherine Virginia (Turner) Dale; brother, Eddie E. Dale; son, Russell R. Dale; adoring granddaughters who loved him so- Michelle A. Viars, Christine D. Cuffe, Carrie K. Dale, and Jennifer A. Dale; and three beautiful great-grandchildren.

An intimate Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 19 at 3:00 pm at the Mausoleum Chapel at Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula or a charity that speaks to your heart.
