Martha “Marti” Strite Scull

Marti Scull went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 3, 2023.   The daughter of a minister, she spent her youth in Indiana, Kentucky, and Georgia before settling in Virginia for over 60 years. A proud member of the Lynchburg College Class of 1966, Marti remained active with her local alumnae and treasured time spent with these lifelong friends- LCGs! A social worker by title, she spent her life’s work in social services helping others and eventually retiring from Eastern State Hospital after 25 years of dedicated service. Marti’s love of music was apparent in her natural gift for the piano and shared by her music ministry at Colony Friends Church, where she was a member for over 35 years. She appreciated the wonder and beauty of the natural world, from the swirl of a sunset sky to the brilliance of a magenta azalea in the backyard. She held her family lineage close to her heart and often reminisced of summers spent at her grandmother’s home in Waynesboro, PA; her beloved Pennsylvania family. She lived her faith quietly: gently encouraging others, steadfast in her care, and with an enduring belief in the goodness of people. Her family and friends were the great joys of her life.

Marti was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Scull; son Todd Trexler; parents, Jacob J. M. and Anna Strite; sister, Georgia Flock; and brother-in-law, Carl Flock. She is survived by her daughter, Loree Trexler-Perez (Matthew Perez); stepdaughter, Jackie Merlino (Steve Merlino); stepson, Christopher Scull (Audra Scull); grandchildren, Isabella Trexler-Perez, Steven Merlino, and Ashleigh Merlino; and niece, Twila Tyree (Garry Tyree).

Please join us to honor a beautiful life. The family will receive friends at Peninsula Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 11 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will take place at Hilton Christian Church on Wednesday, April 12 at 10 AM, officiated by Rev. Michael D. Burnett. Graveside service will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
