Lonnie A. Goodwin

Lonnie A Goodwin, 88, of Newport News, Virginia passed away April 24, 2021.  He served 20 years in the United States Air Force, including two wars, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Technical Sergeant in 1973.  After leaving the Air Force, he joined his older brother at Ball Metal Container in James City County, Virginia, and remained until retiring in 1998.

Lonnie’s favorite past-time was bowling, which he did continuously throughout his entire adult life, in leagues and local, state, and national tournaments.  He made countless friends and many good memories as a result of his time bowling and traveling.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Joel N Goodwin and Mary M Goodwin, and two brothers, Joel N “Morris” Goodwin, Jr and Donald E Goodwin, and step-mother Ruby Goodwin. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary L Goodwin; his children, Glenn A Goodwin, Donna K Goodwin, and Steven L Goodwin; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service, officiated by Pastor Joe Hunt, will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park on Saturday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m.  Guests are required to wear masks and keep their social distance.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hidden Heroes – Patriots And Paws.
