Larry Paul Proctor

Larry Paul Proctor went peacefully to his heavenly home in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. He was born on June 19, 1969, in Newport News, Virginia, and attended Ferguson High School.  He was a mechanic for Newport News Public Schools for many years and he loved working on projects and building things with wood. The outdoors was a great source of relaxation and enjoyment for him, especially any time he spent hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He loved to make other people laugh and his smile was contagious. In his early twenties, he could be found water skiing on the Chickahominy River, with his father pulling him behind his boat. Larry also enjoyed shooting a good game of pool.

Larry was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jack and Ruth Lewis, maternal great-grandparents George and Lelia Delk, niece, Elizabeth Pruitt, and faithful dog Libby.  He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter who brought him great joy, RuthAnne Lelia Proctor of Gloucester. He is also survived by his parents Edward M. Proctor II (Maryann) of Lanexa, VA and Linda M. Austin (James) of Newport News, VA; brothers Edward “Eddie” Proctor III (Jackie) of Lake Worth, Florida and Glen “Joe” Proctor (Wanda) of Newport News, VA; sister Kerrie “Sissy” Hayes (Michelle Barnett) of Newport News, VA; stepbrother, Wesley Zuzma of Williamsburg; uncle, Allen Proctor (Mary) of  Newport News, VA; aunt, Brenda Caputo (Andy), Lanexa, VA; aunt, Deborah Fulford (Brian) of Florida; as well as his nephews and nieces: Thomas Benkowski, Melissa Keene (Derrick), Sarah Proctor, Kelsey Kahler, and Brandon Hoffer all of Newport News, VA and Christopher Proctor of California; and a host of cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Larry was fortunate to have a loving and devoted girlfriend Sarah Robin Hayes of Newport News, who took care of him for many years as his health declined. He thought of her children as his own. They are Robert Lee Harris (Erica) and Danielle Collins (Chris) all of Yorktown and Jessica Harris of Martinsville, VA. He was a fun-loving and devoted PawPaw Larry to their grandchildren: Breyana, Kaelynn, Madisyn, Landyn, Abi, Matthew, Logan, Clarie, Kaya, Jacory, and Lillian. Larry and Robin also shared a very special fur baby Daisey, who was spoiled rotten by Larry.

Larry loved a great adventure and as his health declined and he became disabled it became more difficult for him to get out in public. However, he was blessed to have a best friend by his side who made so many adventures possible, even when Larry did not think it was possible. The family would like to thank Robert “Robb” Berryman for taking Larry hunting, fishing, to Bass Pro Shop, and having meals with his dad. Larry held those memories very close and enjoyed every minute with his best friend.

A Celebration of Larry’s life will take place on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home.  The CDD highly recommends masks for inside gatherings.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
