Kenneth Ray Hayes, Sr.

Kenneth Ray Hayes Sr., 77, of Yorktown passed away on December 30, 2021. He was born on February 17, 1944 in Hampton, VA. He was employed by A&P for 30 years and loved his job. Nothing was more important to Kenny than his family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Seeing his loved one’s happy is what made him the happiest. He was an outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and riding around on his golf cart socializing with others. Bush Park Camping Resort was like a second home for him and his family for more than 20 years where he met many friends who became like family. People would describe Kenny as a man who would give anyone the shirt off his back. Cooking big meals and hosting gatherings brought him much joy and you’d never leave hungry.

He is preceded in death by his children Crystal Hayes and Kenneth Hayes, Jr., and his brothers Hubert, Robert and Walt.

Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Charlotte M. Hayes, faithful pet Ginger, his children Sarah Hayes (Larry) and Tracy Hayes, grandchildren Christopher Mizelle, Robert Harris (Erica), Jessica Harris, Danielle Harris (Chris), Kenny Hayes (Sara), Ryan Craig, Jenny Munson (Kevin), Joshua Hayes, Justin Hayes (Courteney), Jazlyn Hayes (Josh), Ruthie Proctor, 25 great grandchildren, his brother Roy (Peggy), sisters Jeanette, Marie, Louise, and Sue (Vernon), and extended brother/dear friend Mike Richman.

There will be a celebration of Kenneth’s life at 6 pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, held at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News.  The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings.
