Johnny Robertson Whitmore

Johnny Robertson Whitmore, 73, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 23,2020. He was born in Lynchburg, VA and raised in Newport News, then moved to Carrollton where he has resided for the past 34 years. Johnny retired from Newport News Shipbuilding, where he was proud to have been the first person to test and operate the 900-ton crane in 1974, the largest Gantry crane in the country at the time.

Johnny was a loving husband and best friend to Debra. They did everything together. Johnny- I Love You!  Johnny was full of life and always doing something – working out at the YMCA, going out on his boat, spending time with his animals, playing cornhole, and spending time with family and friends. Johnny loved his whole family and friends dearly. He faithfully attended Faith Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his church family.

Johnny was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Lee Whitmore and father, David Walter Whitmore, Sr. He leaves to cherish his loving memories to his wife of 35 years, Debra; his children, Ashley Whitmore, John C. Whitmore (Kathy), Shannon Hatcher, and Clinton Edwards; sister, Martha McCoy (David); brother, David Whitmore (Jeannie); five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID restrictions the service will be private. The service will be streamed live on the Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Carrollton, VA Facebook’s page at “faithfwb” on December 31 at 12:30 p.m.

If Johnny were able to leave some last words, he would tell us all to “Get over yourselves!”.
