John Harrison Youens

John Harrison Youens passed away peacefully at home in Hampton on October 20, 2022 at the age of 79. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on July 1, 1943.

He attended Warwick High School and was self-employed in sales in the City of Hampton. Among his hobbies were antique Volkswagens such as Beetles, Buses, and Dune Buggies, enjoyment of sailing and going to the beach. John loved animals, especially dogs! and helping others.

John was preceded in death by his parents John P. and Dorothy Youens and an infant son. John is survived by his wife Evelyn; daughter Kimberly Zylka of Falls Church, VA; four brothers:  Jeffrey of Springfield, MA, Gregg (Betty) of Newport News, VA, Brian (Constance) of Vista, CA, and Randy of Newport News, VA; and sister Laurabeth of Newport News, VA

To cherish his memory, are family, friends, and the animals he cared for through the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peninsula SPCA, 523 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard,
Newport News, VA 23601 (www://peninsulaspca.org/).

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home.  A graveside service, officiated by Pastor David Lekarczyk, will be held on Wednesday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

    My memories of John are of his love for animals, his willingness to always help someone in need, and his awesome sense of humor. Rest peacefully John, and my condolences to all of his family and friends.
