Jessica Marie Campbell

Jessica Marie Campbell, 47, of Newport News, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Friday, April 21, 2023. Jessica was born on September 2, 1975, to parents Grovia Springham and Douglas Smith at Riverside Hospital in Newport News.

In 2006, Jessica and Mark were introduced to each other through her sister, Rachel. Mark was a plumbing contractor at the property where Rachel worked. She knew they would be perfect for each other as soon as she met him. It wasn’t long before Jessica and Mark’s first date and after dating for about six months, they got married on March 3, 2007. Mark was truly the love of her life. On March 11, 2010, they welcomed their only son, Tanner Campbell. According to Tanner she was the best mom and always thought of others before herself.

Jessica graduated from Tabb High School in 1993. After graduating she obtained her license as a Nail Technician which allowed her to work around a college schedule. She began college at Thomas Nelson Community College alongside her mother. Jessica went on to obtain her Paralegal degree, studied Business Administration, and after following her childhood dream and true passion, she graduated from ECPI as an RN in 2016. While in school she had a great love for mother & baby rotation, and we thought she would choose this specialty for her career. She decided instead to first work in the cardiac unit and then switched specialties to working with dialysis patients.

Jessica was extremely talented at many things and had many hobbies. She had an eye for design, fashion, and home décor. She was very mechanically inclined and could fix most anything you gave her. If you wanted to know how to do something she was your “how to guide”. Jessica was also very artistic and formed a love for cross stitch, creating many beautiful pieces. She loved dressing up in silly outfits and walking/running (she called it wogging) alongside her mother Grovia, stepfather Randy and son Tanner in numerous 5k and 8k races. Jessica, Mark, and Tanner loved to go as a family to Blacksburg, VA to the VA Tech Hokie football games each year. What once was a passion of Mark’s, then became a passion of their family. She was also a self-proclaimed World Master Pokémon Go player!

Jessica was preceded in death by her father Douglas Smith, grandmother Catherine Rinehart, grandfather William Smith, aunt Carolyn Wilburn, grandfather Gary Hughes, grandmother Marie Hughes, cousin Nicholas Lane, and nephew Gavin Auerbach. She is survived by her husband Mark Campbell, son Tanner Campbell, mother Grovia Springham, stepfather Randall Springham, sister Rachel Bryson (Jason Bryson), nephews Jayden and Jaxon Bryson and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. We will miss our JessiePiePooPoo deeply.

A special note from her husband Mark. “I love you Jessica and you will always be in my heart and soul”.

A public visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Peninsula Funeral Home located at 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
