James Richard Dooley

James Richard Dooley joined his parents and his Heavenly Father on March 21, 2022, He passed away in his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.   Jim was born on August 28, 1931, in Chester PA, served in the Navy and continued his education and career as a design engineer. Throughout his life, Jim gave endless hours serving individuals with special needs. Upon retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, Bonsai trees, genealogy, serving with Post 140, and his community via the (Special) Exchange Club.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife Lillian, his daughters Linda Dooley, and Sharon, son-in-law Mike Kramer,  six grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 902 Denbigh Blvd, Newport News, VA on April 4, at 1:00 p.m.; viewing will be held one hour prior to the service, internment will be on April 5th at 9:00 a.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable contributions be made to Boy Scouts of America Troop 140 BSA c/o Bill Stinebaugh Explorer Post 140, 19 Valmoore Dr., Poquoson, VA 23662.

One of Jim’s favorite poems is by Robert Frost – “Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I took the one less traveled by.” Jim is on an eternal path with the loved ones that have passed before him.

    My deepest sympathy for his entire family and many friends on Jims passing. He is indeed walking with our Lord and savior. I will miss his smile.
