James Frank Riesmeyer

James Frank Riesmeyer, 86, formerly of Hampton, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home in Chesapeake, Virginia on Friday, March 18, 2022. Born on April 3, 1935 in Slinger, Wisconsin, he moved with his parents and three sisters to Wonewoc, Wisconsin in 1940. Mr. Riesmeyer earned a BS and MA in History in 1959 from the University of Indiana – Bloomington. As a federal employee for 31 years, he was most recently employed by the Hampton VA Medical Center, where he retired as the Chief of Personnel in 1989.

He is survived by his daughter, Wendy H. Ross (Jim) of Chesapeake; son, Mark C. Riesmeyer of Portland, Oregon; granddaughter, Kaitlyn H. Strawhand (Nathan); three great grandsons, Gavin, Kemp and Emmett Strawhand of Suffolk, Virginia; and sister, Dolores Vaughn of Tucson, Arizona. Mr. Riesmeyer was preceded in death by his parents, Emil Fred Riesmeyer and Emma Hahn Riesmeyer, and sisters, Bernice Conn and Marion Ruetten.

A Remembrance Service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Mr. Riesmeyer’s ashes will be interred in Union Cemetery, Slinger, Wisconsin at a later date. To honor his love of reading, please consider donating to your local library.
