Hazel M. Blanton
Hazel M. Blanton, 93, passed away, peacefully at her home, on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. She was a native of Appomattox, VA, and had been a resident of the Peninsula for over 53 years.
Hazel was a member of Menchville Baptist Church and the Lady’s Bible Class. She was a 1946 graduate of Hampton High School and worked as an accountant for civil service at Fort Eustis. Through her years she was in a bowling league, enjoyed playing bingo, enjoyed home yard care, and traveling America and abroad.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Max D. Blanton. She is survived by her children, Shirley M. Whitenack, Jeannie F. Partee, Hazel V. Price, and Lewis S. Watkins, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and two nieces.
There will be a family gathering on Monday, March 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Menchville Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Jim Weston. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Facial masks and social distancing will be required.
