Harry L. Cassell, Sr.
Harry L. Cassell, Sr., 85, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at his home in Carrollton, VA.
He was a Sales Tax Auditor for the Commonwealth of Virginia and retired from the Virginia Department of Taxation after 30 years of service. Harry served in the U.S. Army National Guard, was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church and the Carrollton Ruritan Club.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl E. Cassell, Sr. and Mary Katherine Cassell, sister, Dorothy Sherwood, and brothers Earl E. Cassell, Jr. and Richard F. Cassell. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louise Cassell; two sons, Harry L. (Butch) Cassell, Jr. and Michael Cassell, Sr.; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Cassell, Michael Cassell, Jr., Matthew Cassell, Charlotte Cassell, Sara Austin, Dakota Gill, Hunter Gill, and Dustin Gill; 2 great-grandchildren, Gabe Cassell and Bentley Gill; 12 nieces and nephews, Debbie Newberry, Donna Cross, Tommy Sherwood, Sandy Sherwood, Kim Brock, Eddie Cassell, Kenneth Cassell, Kathy Spruill, Richard Cassell, Preston “Buzz” Rhinehart, William “Billy” Rhinehart, and Debra Sweeny.
The family will receive friends, Tuesday, February 1 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, with a funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
