Freddie L. Jones
Freddie L. Jones, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022. He was a native of Mt. Olive, North Carolina, and a resident of Newport News, Virginia for 63 years. He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and served until 1954 in Munich, Germany. After being discharged, he went to work with his uncle at his plumbing company in New Bern, NC. This is where he met his soon-to-be wife, Kay Adams and they were fortunate enough to be married for 65 years and were blessed with three children: Lou Jones, Leonard Jones (Sevgi), and Lisa Munson (James). Freddie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren: Kristin Colwell (Steven), James R. Munson, Jr. (Brandi) and Kevin Munson (Jenny), and his great-grandchildren.
Freddie worked hard every day of his life to provide for his family since the day he said, ‘I DO.’ He worked at Newport News Shipbuilding, as a Pipefitter, for 35 years. Freddie loved everyone in his family and even those who weren’t like they were a part of the family. He faithfully attended West Hampton Baptist Church where he was active in Sunday school, lawn maintenance, and other work as needed.
He also enjoyed working with his hands on race cars, and in construction and was a long-time gearhead. He truly was a “jack of all trades and a master of none.” He was a kind, gentle soul who loved God, his family, and his friends. He’d help anyone who needed a hand. Freddie was a ‘determined’ soul and wanted to do things right the first time. He loved giving hugs and did his happy, little ‘Freddie’ dance afterward. Freddie lived a good life of 90 years and he passed away peacefully in God’s arms. He will be deeply missed by his family and all that knew him. We’ll always cherish him and the memories we share of him.
