Emmett A. McNulty

Emmett A. McNulty, also known as “Coach” and “The Big E”, was born in Staten Island, NY on May 14, 1932 and he passed away on December 1, 2022. Coach relocated to Virginia in the mid-1950s and worked many years at The Southern Color Print. He finished his career as a supervisor in the 039 QID department at Newport News Shipbuilding.

His legacy will remain the contributions he made to his community in youth league basketball. He coached for 40 years of his life spending countless hours with hundreds of kids teaching great lessons about the game of basketball and the game of life. # Knicks
He will also be remembered as a huge New York Football GIANTS fan and the Fighting Irish fan!

Coach was preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne Mooney McNulty, grandson, Sean McNulty, Jr., parents John and Alice McNulty, siblings Charles (Rowena), Lily Psztur (Walter), and Sean (Phyllis). He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Evelyne McNulty; his children: Michael (Kathleen), Sean (Susie), Eileen Bellows (Scott), and Mary Katherine, stepdaughters: Theresia Barnes (Warren), Sherril Hudgins, and Christine Ratliff; six grandchildren: Kristen Brizendine (Adam), Colin (Katie), Ryan (Sarah), John, Caleb, and Liam; and four great-grandchildren: Lily, Ella, Teagan, and Evie.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church with a Mass of the Resurrection following at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

    Mike and Sean. I just heard about your Dad passing. I know we lost touch after those days on the basketball court at Jenkins and through the school years but the memories of those times at Jenkins and on the Knicks will forever be with me. I am very Sorry for your loss.
