Dewey Nathan Sosebee

Dewey Nathan Sosebee of Hampton, Virginia passed on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 after a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Nathan was born on December 8, 1948 in Newport News, Virginia. He graduated from Newport News High School in 1968 where he met his wife Kathy Davis. He went on to Chowan College and then on to graduate from Christopher Newport College with a BS degree in Information Technology. He worked for many years at Howmet Corporation, Metro Information Service, Inc., and Smithfield Foods, Inc. He was a longtime resident of Hampton and lived in the Fox Hill area for the past 48 years.

Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Sosebee and Ruth Palmer Sosebee. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathy Davis Sosebee; daughters, Cheryl McVicar (Scott) and Cindy Parrish (Todd); four granddaughters, Emma McVicar, Gabby Parrish, Ellie Parrish, and Addie Parrish; three step-grandsons, Josh, Jacob, and Jordan Parrish; three siblings, Carole Shaw (Dennis), Nancy Seay, and Jeff Sosebee (Marcia); nieces, Lisa Strickland Jones (Mike), Robin Strickland Greene (Kelly), and Madison Sosebee; nephew, Chris DeSaye (Jennifer); sister-in-law, Gwen Davis Allen; and extended family and friends in Virginia and Georgia.

Nathan played basketball from childhood until he was 55 and Alzheimer’s would no longer allow him to play. He was a member of the school basketball teams at Newport News High School, Chowan College, and CNC, and continued to play at the YMCA and in the community. He loved photography, skiing, sailing, biking, scuba diving, and the outdoors. Later in life he enjoyed playing guitar, horseback riding, and motorcycling. He volunteered in the community for various community projects throughout the years.

The family would like to thank Interim Hospice Group for their support and care they gave.

A visitation will be held Thursday, December 3, 2020 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and the funeral will be held on Friday, December 4, at 12:00pm, both at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. The service will be live-streamed at www.peninsulafuneralhome.com/video. The committal will follow the service on December 4, 2020 at Peninsula Memorial Park.
