Campbell Elizabeth Webb

On Friday, 28 October, 2022, Campbell Elizabeth Webb passed away at age 15, at home surrounded by her loving family. It came on the heels of an extended and bravely fought battle with a rare form of leukemia.

Campbell was born on January 27, 2007, in Newport News, Virginia, daughter to Jeff and Susie Webb and beloved sister to Carter Webb.  From day one, she had a gentle spirit and genuine love for life grounded in creativity, friendship, service to others, and love of family. She enjoyed painting, crafting, decorating, music, and more. She was compassionate and loved to use her talents to make gifts and bring happiness to others.

She valued the time with her ‘besties’ to include watching movies, following the latest fashion trends, texting, and most recently, the occasional hospital courtyard visits. During her remission, she was particularly excited to start the year as a tenth grader at Menchville High School where she could be back with her friends, enjoying the perks of being a teenager.

As a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Newport News, Campbell also loved being a part of the youth group, participating in missions and service projects. She had a heart for others that was grounded in her unshakeable faith. Just this summer, while still recovering from her bone marrow transplant, she volunteered to take photos and help decorate for Vacation Bible School.

Despite being a busy teenager, Campbell always cherished her time with family. Whether being creative with her Mom, hanging out at the pool with her Dad, laughing with her brother, going to the beach, or having a movie night, she relished the love of family – a love that was reciprocated in full.  This extended to her 4-legged family members, Ellie, and her most recent love – her Make-A-Wish dog, Rory – an Australian Shepherd who brought her joy and never failed to put a smile on her face. Her wish for a dog was inspired by her experience with the Buddy Brigade therapy dogs at CHKD who’s visits made her journey with cancer that much more bearable.

It is impossible to fully capture what Campbell brought to this world and to our lives. She had a captivating wit that incited laughter under seemingly impossible circumstances. On even the hardest of days, she could make the nurses laugh and bring levity when most needed. She was quiet, thoughtful, and possessed an immense inner strength that defied her young age and carried her through many difficult days of treatment and hospitalizations.  Campbell’s faith in God was with her always and caused her to count her blessings to the very end.  She was an inspiration.

Campbell Elizabeth Webb was beautiful inside and out and it has been our greatest privilege to watch her grow and be a part of her life. We give thanks that she was ours and will cherish every moment we had with her and the impact she had, and will continue to have, on our lives.  Her loving, fun spirit has changed us all for the better.  She will forever be loved and missed more than words can express.

We are grateful to everyone who has brought happiness to our Campbell and loved her over the years. We are also thankful for Dr. Owen and the oncology team at CHKD who never ceased to provide excellent, loving care, the amazing oncology nurses (especially those on her “Bestie Nurse list” – you know who you are!), the Child Life Team, therapy dog Sarah Lee, and the Buddy Brigade.  We also want to thank Theresa from Edmarc.

Campbell is preceded in death by her grandmother Mimi, Mary Watkins Wright, and her grandfather, Rev. Harley S. Webb, Jr.  She is survived by her parents, Jeff and Susie; her awesome brother, Carter; grandmother, Debbie Webb; grandfather, Jim Wright; uncles Scott Wright, Josh (Traci) Webb, and Jake Webb; and her favorite cousin, Beckett Webb; her dogs, Ellie and Rory; and a host of friends and extended family.

We will always remember Campbell’s sweet bubbly personality – even from when she was an adorable toddler – she grew up to be a beautiful young lady – always smiling – Although for a short time – it was a true pleasure getting to know her – she was certainly filled with compassion and despite her own struggles – she always thought of others – a true example of Jesus’ love even at a very young age – We will certainly miss her but are assured that she is now in the loving arms of our Savior – Our sincere condolences to her beautiful family – sending our prayers and hugs 💐❤️

Jeff, Susie, Carter and family, thank you for the privilege of walking with you, and praying with you, during the year and 1/2 that Campbell was fighting cancer. Susie – you kept us up to date on how things were going, during the good times and not so good times; that must have been so difficult but you are such a giving person, just like your daughter. This past summer, I remember her taking pictures at VBS with a smile on her face and that giving attitude she always had! She was a natural behind that camera lens. My heart is broken that she has left this world – but we will see her again in Heaven. “Remember her with smiles.”
