Brenda filled in for me while I was on maternity leave in 1992, and then took my place when I moved out of the admin ranks in the late ’90’s. Always a conscientious worker, good friend, and had the most beautiful handwriting (as evidenced by the thousands of handwritten ship christening invitations throughout the years at NNS!). Miss her much.

Brenda taught me so much during my early years in Communications. Her attention to detail was second to none – and she loved tradition and ceremony. She hand wrote names and addresses on every christening invitation while she was in our department (and even a few after she joined HR). She loved making things feel personal, and added a touch of class to everything she was part of. Her commitment was strong and even fierce at times. She was a shipyard institution and set the standard in all she did.

Brenda was a consummate professional and she cared deeply about people and the volunteer programs at NNS. For years, she was my contact for anything that was needed to keep the shipyard TATOO Tutoring Programs at NNS thriving. She made sure we always had gifts for the students and for the volunteers to ensure they received acknowledgment and recognition. She was very organized and had such a joyful spirit in how she dealt with others. She knew her role in the company and did it very well. She was a blessing to many. My sincere condolences to her family who she talked about often. Rest in heaven Brenda!

I worked on many projects with Brenda. She was always helpful in every way she could be. A fine person and a loss to the community. Rest in eternal peace my friend.

Brenda was my coworker in 029 for many years. She was probably one of the most conscientious employees the Shipyard ever had. She always willing to help out even with jobs that weren’t her responsibility. After her responsibilities changed with regard to christenings, she was always willing to lend me a hand with the invitations and anything else she could. She was also a personal friend and we ate many dinners together after work. She was even with me when I met my husband. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen her but we sent cards back and forth. I’m going to miss hearing from her.

Brenda was very special to me. She took me under her wing when I first started working for Newport News Shipbuilding. She was so dedicated to NNS and passionate about her job in community relations. She managed countless company blood drives, school tool drives, food bank drives, community events, special ship christening events and so much more. She was so funny, loved to decorate for every holiday, always had a gift for you on your birthday, and as mentioned by so many others had the most beautiful handwriting. She hand wrote the addresses for my wedding invitations, I saved a few, plus all of the Christmas cards she sent me, just to keep the memories of her beautiful writing. She was a great lady! I will miss her and think of her often. Love you Brenda.

My condolences to Brenda’s family. She loved her family unconditionally. She was a loving kind person who never met a stranger. She got up everyday and went to work with enthusiasm because “it’s my shipyard” Myself, along with my family, will miss her. She was a big part of our lives with loving memories.

Brenda was my sister-in-law, but having no sibbings, she treated me with love and respect as tho I was her brother, and treated me as such. I recall many fun visits to Newport News where I was able to go into shipyard to see USS Enterprise of which I was stationed upon in Navy. The trips to Las Vegas were also very exciting and so much entertaiment due to Brenda and Ebbie. Brenda was a huge part of my life for the 52 years being married to her sister, Betty. We Love you Brenda, Rest in Peace~~
