Avernia Hudson Banton

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, our beloved Mother, Avernia Hudson Banton, joined her husband, parents and brother for a joyous reunion in heaven. Avernia was born on November 3, 1943 in Newport News, Virginia.

Her husband, Leslie Banton, parents, Horace and Edith Hudson, and brother, Woodrow Hudson predeceased her. She is survived by her son, Timothy S. Banton and his wife Laura Banton, and daughter, Melinda K. Perez and her husband Jose G. Perez. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Avernia retired from Newport News Shipbuilding with 40+ years of service. She was known for her love of cooking, entertaining and hosting holidays for family and friends. There wasn’t a holiday without her infamous mac-n- cheese. Her greatest pleasure was doing for others; going to church with her sister-in-law, Barbara Banton and nieces and nephews; and following Cristiano’s karate competitions.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, at Parklawn Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

I am very sorry to hear of Avernia’s passing. She was a neighbor of mine. She was always so friendly to everyone. I recall all the years she would walk by my house with her beloved furbabies . I pray the family will have strength during this difficult time
