Anne J. Pruitt

Anne J. Pruitt 95, of Carrollton, Virginia passed away peacefully on July 29, 2022, with her family by her side. She was a native of Gloucester, Virginia and she graduated from Gloucester High School. After graduating, the high school offered her a job to work in their office. Later she moved to downtown Newport News, rented a room from a sweet, kind lady who treated her like a daughter, and worked at Epps Stationary as a bookkeeper, where she met a handsome young sailor who swept her off her feet. That man became “Our Dad.” He said, “I took one look at her and said, “That woman is going to be my wife.” They got married and had four children, deciding that Anne would stay home and raise their children.

Later, Anne decided to join the workforce again. She went to a temporary service, where she could work as needed, or when the job was finished. Every temporary service job wanted to keep her full-time as they loved her. She did accept an offer at Sharf Beer Distributor until they sold the business.

Having a passion for sewing and being a perfectionist, she made beautiful things and loved to give them away to her sisters, members of her family, and friends. Her son handed her a homemade welders cap and asked her to try to make it. She did and made it even better. It was a “hit” among shipyard workers. People as far away as upstate New York would call to place orders. That made her so happy and gave her spending money. Anne was so kind and caring to everyone she met. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she loved them all so much.

She was preceded in rest by her Loving Husband Retired Btn. Chief Richard E. Pruitt, Sr., parents, Herman and Rae Jenkins, granddaughters Anne Marie Pruitt, Elizabeth Pruitt, son Thomas W. Pruitt, grandson John R. Kidd Jr., sisters, Catherine Harvey, Louise Haywood, and Delois  Adan, and brother, Herman Jenkins Jr.

Anne leaves behind her loving firstborn son, Richard E. Pruitt, Jr. (aka TF); her loving, kind, and caring brother Reuben Jenkins; her daughters, Donna Pruitt, Debra Accardi, and (daughter-in-law) Patti Pruitt whom she would always refer to as my daughter; grandchildren: Angela Summerlin, Lauren Wilson, Lindsey Accardi, Tommy, and Patricia Pruitt, Richard and Johnathan Pruitt, and Christopher Proctor; great-grandchildren: Natalie and Reagan Summerlin, Kaya and Christina Gregory, Madison Douglas, Shelby, and Eva Pruitt, Caleb and Jordan Pruitt, Leiland Proctor, and Braxton Wilson; and a whole host of cousins and spouses.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

A reception will immediately follow the burial at 1023 Whippingham Parkway for food and beverage.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
