Ann Elizabeth Powell

Ann Elizabeth Powell, 88, of Hampton, VA died peacefully on January 24, 2021 at Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester.

Ann retired from Sears after 25 years. She was a faithful member of West Hampton Baptist Church for 56 years where she served on various committees, sang in the senior adult choir, and enjoyed serving others by working in the church clothes closet. She loved her family, was quick to laugh and would often roll her eyes. Ann enjoyed camping, boating and going to the beach. One of her favorite activities was going to Red’s Pier (Huntington Park) to laugh at people who would attempt to launch their boats at the beginning of the season.

Ann is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William “Buddy” Powell; great-grandson, Grayson; parents, Levander and Lavinia Morris; and brother, Marvin Morris. She is survived by four daughters, Cynthia Ann Foss (Richard), Joy Wigglesworth (Robert), Sherry Laibstain, and Tammy Curtiss; ten grandchildren, Mandy (Mark), Robert Jr. (Angela), Elizabeth, Richard Jr. (Stacey), Kimberly, William (Marybeth), Katie, Sarah, Matthew, and Jeremy; and fifteen great-grandchildren, Emily, Derek, Clara, Adeline, Amberly, Jonathan, Jessie, Ava, Dylan, Brady, Sunny, Nicholas, Makenzie, Lily, and Dayton; and former sons in-law, Harry Laibstain and Ron Curtiss.

We thank Jon Aldridge and the wonderful staff at Mennowood Retirement Community for their excellent care of Ann, especially for the love, kindness and respect given by the memory care unit during the last few years of her life.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday February 1, 2021 at Hampton Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Danny Owens officiating. Guests are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
