Alfred Guy Hall

Alfred Guy Hall, “Ferd”, 94, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Born in Newport News, Virginia at the McDonald Army Hospital on Ft. Eustis, he was a lifelong Virginia resident and a Yorktown resident since 2003. Ferd served our country during World War II as a Navy Seabee; supporting operations in Shanghai, China and Okinawa, Japan. After returning from Navy service and a brief stint at Newport News Shipbuilding, Ferd once again supported our country as a Quality Assurance Supervisor for the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown. After a long-distinguished career of 36 years, he retired from Civil Service in 1982 to take care of his granddaughter. He used to joke the government may come looking for him as he was retired longer than he worked. Ferd was a Master Mason with the Warwick Lodge in Newport News, VA. He was quite the “foodie” from menu planning to developing recipes, and teaching us how to cook everything from his favorite greens to a hearty stew.

Ferd is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Nancy Ward Hall; son, Daniel G. Hall and his wife, Angela, of Yorktown, VA; granddaughter, Kinsey L. Hall of Newport News, VA; four very special nephews and nieces, Dennis W. Ivey, Sr. and his wife Merle, Dennis W. Ivey Jr. and his wife Karen, and Katey I. Rott and her husband Greg, all of Williamsburg, VA, and Kelly N. Ivey and her fiancé, Dan, of Hampton, VA; and a host of other family and friends.

A visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., in Newport News, with a memorial service to begin at 6:00 p.m. Guests are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Ferd and Nancy.
