Ada Mae Freeman Tew

Ada Mae Freeman Tew, born in Newport News on January 9, 1925, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at Mary Immaculate Hospital on December 4, 2020. She resided on the Peninsula her whole life. Ada was a life member of Parkview Baptist Church and was a good and faithful servant who had a heart for missions. She loved the Women’s Missionary Union, and led a WMU Circle. Ada taught Girls-in-Action, formally known as the Girls’ Auxiliary, and also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She retired from the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. Her hobbies included loving her family, crocheting and cooking.

Ada was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Tew; son, Jerry Lee Tew; parents, Herbert Lendo Freeman, Sr. and Emma Jeanette Park Freeman; siblings, Herbert Lendo Freeman, Jr. and wife Mildred Turlington Freeman and his ex-wife, Louise Vann Freeman; and brother, Robert Lee Freeman and wife Dorothy Crossman Freeman. She is survived by her son, Edward John Tew and wife Jacqueline Moore Tew; grandchildren, Benjamin Tew and wife Nikki, Andrew Tew and wife Katie, Caron Daniels and husband Greg, and Mark, Chad, and Ryan Tew; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Betty Alma Freeman Kelly; daughter-in-law, Connie Dawson Tew; and multiple nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed and loved by all.

A visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Parkview Baptist Church, 604 Hilton Boulevard, in Newport News. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the church, conducted by Pastor Rusty Beck. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Guests are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.

Contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Mission Offering in care of Parkview Baptist Church.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to those at the Hamilton York Convalescent Center of the Virginia Health Services. We understand this has been a difficult time during the Covid-19 pandemic.
