Laura Maxine Burnette Cone passed away on Friday night, October 24, 2025, with her grandson by her side, holding her hand. Laura was from Louisburg, NC. She was the daughter of the late Earlie and Beulah Burnette. She was predeceased by her daughter, Phyllis Kay Ayers; son-in-law, William Ayers; two sisters, Lois Denton and Willa Burnette; and one brother, Ledford Burnette.
Laura is survived by her husband, Richard Cone, her grandsons, William Jason Ayers and Steven Forest Ayers, and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating from high school in Louisburg, NC, Laura went to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. She later relocated to Newport News, Virginia, and started working at the Newport News Shipyard Employees Credit Union, where she would later retire.
The family concluded her life here on earth with a private graveside gathering on Saturday afternoon in the Garden of Wisdom at Peninsula Memorial Park.
