George Barry Hamann is a native of a small farming community in northwestern New York. He came to the Peninsula in September 1990 and, through a series of divinely guided events, began a career as a funeral service provider in February 1992. George earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1988 from S.U.N.Y. at Geneseo and his Associate Degree in Mortuary Science with honors in 1996 from Gupton-Jones College in Georgia. He also earned the title of VCFP, Virginia Certified Funeral Professional, in 1999 and is a Life Member of the National Museum of Funeral History.
He currently lives in Poquoson with his wife Marie, daughter, and many four-legged children. He enjoys writing in his spare time and has published 3 volumes of poetry and is working on his forth.
George owes much of his success to his mom who greatly influenced him as a nurse. She always went above and beyond to place her patients and their families first. Mom continues to inspire him with her desire to continue her education and she recently earned her Master’s in her mid-70’s.
